Honestly probably condom education! personally I was a teen mom and i thought the abstenance classes were a joke…. as did half the damn class.
They dont understand that 99% of the couples wont be together even long enough to have the baby! I was lucky I married her daddy but I can think of 2 couples I know out of at least 20 teen moms I know that are still together… and they have broken up at least 10x apiece!!!!!
Birth control needs to be easier to access and condom need to be handed out in class…. I know they do that in movies but my school never did…. its a damn good idea!!!!
Anyway first hand experience!!!!

Pregnancy Through Teen
What is the best way to reduce the teen pregnancy rates, abstinence education or condom education?

Both, all, anything else you can think of too

Reduce condom education? Um?

nothing will reduce it… kids now about them trust me… you cant make them use it though
References :
I agree with both.
I think we should talk about sexual experiences also. De glamorize it.
References :
uhh.
don't have sex.
References :
You really can't go wrong with both. Some kids will listen to the abstinence talk and those who don't will hopefully listen to the condom one!
References :
Definitely condom education.
Abstinence isn't realistic.
Condoms are.
References :
abstinence education is the reason teens get pregnant.
you think tellin a kid not o do something becuz it's bad actually works?
lol, kids luv doing the wrong thing.
References :
well abstinence is 100% proof
and condoms can fail at times.

you should teach all ways so people can have the option to choose what they want to do.
References :
- Hand out condoms. In New Zealand you can get like 70 for $3
- Stop telling everyone that abortion is murder. It's as logical as a "menstruation is murder" campaign
Abstinence won't work. Never has and never will. Kids like to get it on

the condom one it will actually stay in students heads not like abstinence
References :
Condoms… Teach them to do it SAFE… A guy shouldn't have to file papers in accordance with the freedom of information act to find the approximate location of a woman's reproductive system…

Of course both. And they should have a program where real life public speakers that have gone through situations like these to talk to teens. Maybe that'll scare them.

all of the above………and the PILL

when the kids first get there lockers there should either be a condom or a birth control pill in there.

Well studies show that abstinence education is not really as effective as a sex ed. The reason for that is, teens don't know how to protect themselves when they go off and have sex. And no amount of abstinece training is going to stop teens from having sex when they really want. Teaching them about condoms and bc is going to help a lot.

Both. Because after you tell them not to, they will anyway, and at least they'll know what to do when they defy you. And then what to do afterwords when they realize you were right the first time.

I hate condoms.
References :
Abstinence education, because When they learn about STDs that can be transmitted just by touching and the things that come with having a baby and the stories of teens who were pregnant and all that, then a lot of young couples will think twice before getting that intimate.

In my opinion, parents making intelligent decisions about how to raise their children from a young age is the best way to control teen pregnancy rates. School sex ed of either kind is a smart choice but it won't do much if a teen's home life leaves something to be desired.
However, educating teens on how to protect themselves is smart no matter what angle you look at it from. Some people have gone out into the world knowing nothing about how to protect themselves when it comes to sex, despite that the message has become more prevalent in recent years.
So, condom ed, as you put it. But the problem does not begin or end with the school system.

both, and birthcontrol, but abstinance your teaching them just not to have sex and its gonna happen, with condom edu. its still gonna happen, with birth control its really gonna happen and its more like ok now u can do what you want
but yea you wont have any teen babies! lol
References :
just let them know that a condom is the greatest invention you will ever see. and also tell them that getting pregnet as a teen can be one of the worst things that can happen to you. and you know where im going with this, give them ever resone to be scared of getting pregnat, that will convense them.

I would say abstinence education. I had my son at 17 and my life has been a bumpy road since then! I wish I can reach out to girls and tell them how life can be much better in their near future, I wish I can educate girls that a baby would no way fill void or make them feel loved! But if a parent knows their kid well enough and knows it wont be good enough with a sex talk then go run to the doctors and get the pills AND condoms. I would also like to teach young teens about credit and the importance of it but that's another topic.
why do I get two thumbs down? This is why lil girls are getting pregnant because people are in denial about this topic and dads are not always involved with their children and so many other reasons why lil girls are looking for "love" in all the wrong places. I rather protect my daughter as much as I can then hurt her health and hurt her future by being ignorant to this subject. As much as i would love my girls to stay a virgin until they are married the truth is its probably, maybe, possible likely to happen. We can be the best parents in the world but its up to the children the make their own decisions as pre-adults.

Been there done that..
Condom education. Most Westernised countries approach sex education from the contraceptive angle rather than the abstinence angle, with the exception of the United States, which, quite frankly, is rather backwards on the issue. The other Westernised countries have a far lower teen birth rate because of this. Sexual education about contraception starts in early high school and in most Westernised countries, teenagers wouldn't think of having sex without protection. Just look at Scandinavian nations. Good sex ed curriculum focusing on contraception, and a low teen pregnancy rate. Decades of this has proved that it works.
However, with the introduction of the Baby Bonus in Australia, there has been an increase in births. This will probably rectify itself when the Baby Bonus payment becomes means tested, instead of being given to everyone.
Teenagers are going to have sex. You can't just tell them not to. You have to give them information and resources to protect them, regardless of your religious or moral beliefs. It would be negligent not to arm young people with this information.

the reduction of pregnancy is not the only concern with teens, they need a fully comprehensive sex education program that discusses the effects of STDs as well as birth control and abstinence as the ultimate means of protection. Too much knowledge is better than not enough and this information does not give a teen an excuse to have sex, but rather gives them the tools to make safer choices.

i think it all boils down to single parent households having a lot higher numbers of teen pregnancy. It's a lifestyle they learn from their parent's actions. You can pass out condoms to 14 year olds but hell, if they can't remember to close and lock the front door, what makes you think they'll use the condom? Enough times and an "accident" occurs. It's teens having too much time and freedom before they are mature enough to handle it.
I think back to my HS days, only my parents strict religious control kept me out of trouble. I hated it but it worked. Nowadays we eschew anything holy and embrace social issues with no concept of morality and look what happens. And as the single parent families increase, so will teen pregnancies, teen crimes and teen runaways. fact not fictional.

Abstinence education. I have just watched two documentaries on the HIV and AIDS problem in Uganda and South Africa. Before Abstinence Education started in Uganda, it had the highest rate of use of condoms but also the highest rates of AIDS. Once the government started sponsoring and promoting Abstinence, the rates of AIDS had dropped dramatically. Condom education does not work. It is saying you must use a condom because you cannot control your desires and are like an animal. Abstinence promotes self respect and self esteem, saying you are worth more than just giving yourself away to anyone because they desire you for self pleasure, instead of loving the whole person that you are.

I think Safe sex,
Condom education.
Condoms are expensive.
If they required all schools with 7-12 grade in them,
to have them FREE.
Kids and teens MIGHT use them.
They get in the mood,
Have no protection,
+& Just do it anyways.
Abstinence is Bull.
Some people can do it.
But most can't.
+& If teens don't want to then their not going to.
Preaching the same thing isn't gonna change ANYTHING.
Free condoms and Birth control.
Even if the teens aren't talking about sex.
Put them on birth control.
It does MANY good things for you!
So why not?! Just INcase.
If my mom came and said Do you want on birthcontrol?
I'd say No I'm not having sex,
cause I know that's what she wanted to hear.
But if she said I don't care what you say,
I'm putting you on it just for all the OTHER stuff.
Then I'd be like okay?
Maybe if it was something people used more realistically,
Like my mom makes me get a flu shot.
Maybe every mom should make their kids.
It keeps them healthier.
+& Along with the birth control.
Maybe if parents didn't make it,
such a BAD thing,
kids would be so scared,
to tell their parents their curious?
Too many kids having the sex talk for the first time,
Is when their telling their parents their pregnant…
My opinion…
Courtney.
