I’m from Germany and for me it was normal that we discussed the sex things in our biology lessons. So I’m really bemazed every time I hear about “Abstinence only Education” or people which support that.

At the moment I’m completing an Internship at NCAC (National Coalition Against Censorship) so I’ve read a lot about it – certainly.

No. I would think that teaching sex ed would make teens more likely to have sex since they get a free condom and are told all about it, thus increasing the chances for STDs and pregnancy.

Of course it will not guarantee that there will be no more teenage pregnancies, and it will not prevent them from contracting VD. The goal of it is, hopefully, to at least educate students on the potential consequences, that no preventative measure is 100% effective.

I believe teaching sex education further exacerbates the problem. It’s not the schools job to teach something that is the job of the parent to teach at home. Not to mention studies have show that parents are the number one influence in a child life. Which is why it’s best for them to be taught at home by the two people who have the greatest impact on them.

they have been teaching sex ed in schools for years and it has not helped a darn thing. more girls getting pregnant these days than ever before.

Of course not. But when you look at the data from industrialized nations where thorough sex education, including the use of contraceptives is taught, absent all the religious bush-wacking about it, you see that there is a much lower rate of teen pregnancy. I doubt very much that the mothers in Spain, France, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, et al., are any different than American mothers in terms of teaching their children about contraception at home. Schools obviously play a very large role in the issue.

The number of teenage pregnancies and spread of STDS would drop significantly. Alot of teens are too embarassed to buy condoms.

If there was sex education, there would be allot fewer teen pregnancies and how in your right mind can you deny that?
You cons will just follow anything the Republican leaders tell you like you’re a bunch of sheep. If the Democrats were against sex ed. and Republicans were for it, you’d be saying the complete opposite.
To be against responsible and structured education of any subject is rediculous regardless of your political leanings

Driving is taught will there never be another driving accident?

Gun safety is taught will there never be another gun fatality?

Alcohol responsibility is taught will we never see another drunken crime?

Schools teach reading, writing, and arithmetic so does that mean all of our kids are getting educated?

Bush put his hand on the bible does that mean he didn’t lie?

The problem with your Conservative logic is you only apply it to what you want to fit your argument. You don’t have to be liberal to see your argument flaw here it’s just common sense.

No one is saying that.Obviously,teenage pregnancy will never be erased,but we can reduce them.Besides,preaching abstinence obviously hasn’t worked.

What we need to do is teach kids about birth control,contraception,and abstinence. That was taught to me when I was in high school. We learned about the consequences of getting pregnant when you’re a teenager. That’s what we need to do. Educate the kids about STDs,contraception,abstinence,and the risks of having sex when you’re not ready

Also,parents need to get involved and talk to their kids about sex. If they’re uncomfortable,they can get help from a pamphlet about how to talk to their children.

It’s not a liberal thing.It’s a common sense thing.
