I don't think the problem is just the media, it's parents that let their kids watch crap on tv.

I have no idea. I know that as a teen, I don't think I ever paid attention to the news or the newspapers. Is that the kind of media you are referring to?

So, I don't think it has any effect.

The music, the magazines, the movies and television shows that teenagers find so appealing have been creating a subculture based on age since the mid 60s. Many kids do not see it as the media affecting their decisions, they see themselves as individuals, however, in order to fit in they feel a need to look and feel like everyone else, or rebel against it. This is how the media plays in. It sets the standard by which the majority of teenagers follow. The reason why so many teenagers are rude brats who cant keep their legs closed and their minds open is becuase rap and pop (socially accepted filth) are accepted and emulated by a large percentage of teenagers.
