How often should i feed my pregnant guppy?

Posted at February 27th, 2010 by admin

Hi,My female guppy is pregnant for the second time and she is almost three weeks pregnant. How many fries do you think she will have? What will be her symptoms?for how long should i leave her in the breeding box?Should i put food in the breeding box?

I appreciate every information that you are going to give me.
Her pregnant spot is red now,but sometimes it is black.what does it mean?what is the difference between red and black?

~ You should be feeding her the same as you would normally. Keep her on a staple diet of pellets/flakes, but supplement it every now and then with protein such as blood worms and brine shrimp two to three times weekly.

~ I don’t know how many fry she’ll give birth to, it all depends on the age and experience of the female. Larger, older and more experienced females will give birth to more fry than a smaller inexperienced female. The number of fry she has also depends on her overall health.

~ Her symptoms will include a large, plump, square-like stomach when looked at from above, as well as a dark gravid spot. Within the next week or so, she’ll either eat a lot, very little or nothing at all, and she’ll also search for a nice quiet spot to deliver in the main aquarium.

~ Please do not put her in the breeding box, all they do is cause stress. Keep her in the main tank and let her give birth there. If you’re afraid of the fry getting eaten, you can put lots of floating plants and hiding places in the tank to assure their survival.

~ A red gravid spot indicates either a parasite, or just natural colour, depending on the lighting and what colour she is. If it turns back to black and it isn’t always red, I think you’re just looking at her in a different light.
