Amazing Song. These Writers,Holley And Raleigh Wrote In The Style Of Bacharach-David.I Had To Do Extensive Research To Find Out Who Wrote This Song. The Songwriters Should Be Noted On Every Song.Without Songwriters There Are No Songs. This Song Is A Dream. It Sounds Like Bacharach-David But It Isn’t. I Know They Were An Influence Of The Writers.Baby Washington Was And Is A Great Singer. I Would Love To See Her On The Oldies Shows. The Songs Are Not Oldies They’re Classics. This is for Peter …
This is for Peter Bernard my friend from the Uk who knew more about black music in this period of music than anyone I have ever met.

Yeah, seems to be a male family trait. My mother was a great dancer but I inherited fathers two left feet. Hope to get there before I am too old to enjoy. Best to you and yours also.

There is such a thing as a brother with two left feet then!!! There is still time to visit us with our warm beer and strange ways. Best to you.

    When my girlfriend …
When my girlfriend (now my wife) and I were stationed in Berlin in late 70s & early 80s, Sometimes I couldn’t get a dance with her at NCO club for all the British soldiers asking her. But it worked out since she is a great dancer and I am a brother with 2 left feet! Had great times there. Never made it to England though, wish I had.

    The USAF bases was …
The USAF bases was something I had forgotten, we had Chicksands, Allconberry, etc in this area and if you knew the “right” person you could get in to listen in wonder & drink Shlitz & Bud way back in the 60′s. I think the UK must have seemed prehistoric to the guy’s posted there!! but we got soul appreciation in a big way.

    You’re right. It …
You’re right. It came out of the Black church with same beat but with lyrics about “my baby” instead of “my Jesus”. The jook joints, small clubs, Chitlin Circuit, mom & pop record stores, small independent labels but soul on its feet. That is how it made it to the U.K. Also with help of Black G.I.s stationed in Europe. Though a lot of this music obscure to mainstream USA, in those venues it wasn’t.

    A small addition to …
A small addition to your ‘info’ panel, the songwriters are Bob HALLEY and Ben RALEIGH. RALEIGH in particular has a wonderful catalogue, his songs have been recorded by (amongst others) Louis Jordan, Lou Rawls, Chuck Jackson, The Tymes, Jackie Wilson, Tommy Hunt and Kurt Harris. RALEIGH co-wrote with many famous tunesmiths such as Jeff Barry, Don Wolf, Jerry Ragavoy & Mark Barkan. The RALEIGH-BARKAN tune ‘Emperor Of My Baby’s Heart’ is perfection in song, performance (Kurt Harris) & arrangement.
