Stunning images of New Zealand http://www.nhc.net.nz/

New Zealand home of “The Lord of the Rings” was the last large landmass to be discovered as seen in the Pure New Zealand video. Resultant of developing in isolation we have thousands of unique species. GB has only two as a comparison. 11% of the world endangered species are from New Zealand.

The introduced Brushtailed Possum population is now estimated at 70 million, yes 70,000,000. More than enough to circle the planet nose to tail. They are estimated to eat 21,000 tonnes per evening. How many trees is that? The Brushtailed Possum is also a carrier of tuberculosis which if not controlled puts our primary export products at risk. The Brushtailed Possum has been filmed with night capture recording equipment eating baby birds and eggs including those of the endangered North Island Kokako. The South Island Kokako is now thought to be extinct but but some evidence suggests that there may still be a few left on the West Coast.

Yes unfortunatly we cant keep them as pets here, even if their mother has been hit by a car. We have 70 million possum eating 21,000 tonne of native forest daily. I had a look at your channel re your wildlife vids. If you use movie maker I have some output settings that might be helpful.

You’re daughter is adorable and I love the NZ accent talking about an Australian animal haha.

So you run an organisation/website promoting the conservation of NZ wildlife? Cool.

But I’m curious – are u a wildlife carer too? What happened to the possum? I’m assuming he would have needed to be euthanised given that they are pests over there (actually they’re considered pests here too unfortunately) – sorry to mention the sad side of wildlife care but I am curious. :(

    Safer than patting …
Safer than patting a dog. A couple of weeks older and if feeling threatened it would bite but it would also let you know it was feeling thretened before you were close enough to bite.
