My little girl is 3 1/2 months old and has just started tugging, grabbing and holding her toys. Every child is different so don't worry. Your baby will get there.

My son was almost 4 mos old. Before then he would just look. Then one day out of nowhere I was holding his octopus toy and he grabbed it.

My son is 2.5 months old, and he will hold a rattle if I put it in his hand to grasp. He lays in his little gym and bats at the hanging toys, but I don’t think it is on purpose yet–I think he just happens to be moving and the toy is hanging in the way, but he is hopefully seeing that he causes the movement. I hope that helps. Have you tried wrist rattles?

Pretty soon now mine did around 3 months I bought a baby Gym and laid them on their back underneath and let them bat their hands at it.its good for their hand eye coordination.

My first son was into things very early trying to grab toys from about 6 weeks but our second son was more of an observer and didn’t really try to have a go until he was more like 12 weeks old. The boys are 3 and 6 now and they are still similar to the personalities that came out way back when. Number 1 son jumps right in quickly and Number 2 son calculates everything before getting involved. As long as your baby is interested that’s all that matters just get more of the hanging toys that they can see from cot or bouncinette!

Every child is different. My friends kids showed interest at about 12 weeks. My son liked to look at toys earlier, but really didn't play with them until about 12 weeks! I think 8 weeks is too young to grab things yet!
