    This is where gauge …
This is where gauge plays a role. You crochet at least a 4×4 inch swatch. The swatch will tell you how many stitches are made for that yarn and crochet hook. You will need to have a basic understanding of increasing to modify. This means you may have more stitches in a round than the original pattern to compensate for the smaller yarn or smaller crochet hook.

    Hi,
was just wondering how you would adjust this pattern for different yarn and crochet hooks but still get it to fit the same sized baby

I used a 5MM aluminum crochet hook so that will explain why you hat came out small.

    With some …
With some modification. You would not do as many rounds with increases and modify the hat size for a premie.

    You would need to …
You would need to add 2 increases evenly on your new round for the cap to increase. You can try 1 single in each of the next 3 and the two in the same stitch.

hi i’m a new crocheter.being inspired by ur videos i;ve made a basket, bingobag, baby bootie. it all turned out fine,am trying this baby beanie.i used a different hook and added 2 more rnds to increase the size now i’ve made 22 rnds and ended up with a relatively small cap. is there any alternative 2 increase the size at this point or just do a new one.
    thanks 4 all ur videos.

would i be able to make this hat to fit a newborn preemie?

    The hat would be …
The hat would be made for the size of their head. I have used a size H hook for a 15″ hat and a size I hook for an 18″ hat. You could try using a size J hook and possible come up with something to fit their head. You will need to crochet additional rounds for a longer length.

    Using a different …
Using a different yarn will result in a different size. Most likely you could have a different size anyway with your crochet style and tension.

also, how would the end result differ if i use a diffrent type of string
(one thats not too thin but the type i want for the beanie {lightweight cotton yarn} (i dont want to use the 4 ply worsted yarn because its kinda furry, which i dont want))

Im just learning how to crochet and am using your other videos to learn how to do all teh terms you mention throught the video. can i follow the instructions you are giving here but with a diffrent sized hook to make the striped beanie for a 4-6 year old’s head… if so, what size hook should i use or changes should i make when following your instructions, or will it not work at all?

    It will depend on …
It will depend on the size of the head of the 1 year old. I recently crochet this pattern with a size I/5.5mm crochet hook, 4 ply yarn and made a cap that would fit an 18″ head.

ok… I am using a 7.00mm hook and 8 ply yarn. do you think that will fit a one year old if i do all 22 rows?

This one will fit a 6 month old. If you use a larger hook like an I or J size hook, the cap will fit a larger head.
