Consuming Kids part 1 of 7

Posted at April 16th, 2010 by admin

Consuming Kids throws desperately needed light on the practices of a relentless multi-billion dollar marketing machine that now sells kids and their parents everything from junk food and violent video games to bogus educational products and the family car. Drawing on the insights of health care professionals, children’s advocates, and industry insiders, the film focuses on the explosive growth of child marketing in the wake of deregulation, showing how youth marketers have used the latest advances in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience to transform American children into one of the most powerful and profitable consumer demographics in the world. Consuming Kids pushes back against the wholesale commercialization of childhood, raising urgent questions about the ethics of children’s marketing and its impact on the health and well-being of kids.

    That would be an …
That would be an inaccurate assessment. While the first part of this documentary does touch on some of the same issues in a broad manner, it is more of a means to establish precedent for the rest of the information. I would suggest that you watch the other 6 parts and then share your opinion. To the poster of the documentary, thanks for the upload!

they need to show this documentary in PTA meetings so parents and teachers are more aware of this. If more and more people start realizing the problem, then we’ll see change. Sad how the world is right? people risk their morals just for money.

It’s rare when my kids watch TV – usually Saturday mornings – since it’s banned during the school week. When they do, the standing order is that the Mute button is pressed when a commercial comes on. It started when the decibel level got super high, and I wanted it turned down. Then I convinced the kids that it’d be more interesting to watch the commercial, muted, and see if they could figure out what was being sold and why. Made a lot of food/toy commercials look really ridiculous.

I have a little sister who freaks out whenever she sees an advertisement for a toy she wants on t.v. It drives me crazy! I try not to watch too much television anymore. I’ve noticed that the volume increases everytime there’s a comercial break. Sometimes I just want to rip that idiot box from the wall and send it down a three story building.
