Neneh’s version is …
Neneh’s version is fantastic and she has the punk credentials. Neneh was a big part of the early 80s London punk scene and was in several punk bands including a band called the Cherries. She also did a short stint in the Slits. After a couple of years, Neneh gravitated to the hip-hop scene and was in a punk/hip hop fusion band called Rip Rig + Panic in 1981. She sung with RR + P until 1986. She’s currently recording with Tricky of Massive Attack.

Saw X-Ray Spex live once (Victoria Park RAR gig in ’78 or ’79? a long time ago). This cover is different enough & well worth a listen. I think that Poly S. has the better voice though – maybe misses a note or two, but this is punk, remember, and it comes from the heart.
